Fear and Following

"Worry doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrows. It empties today of its strength."
-Corrie Ten Boom

Oh how oh how do I need to live by this. Do you ever have something in your life that is so constant, it becomes just ingrained into you and that you don't think twice about it.
Yup, that is worrying for me. So much so- that I sometimes seriously forget to ask God to help heal me from my anxieties.

What is the root of worry...fear.
Fear of the inevitable, fear of loss, fear of the unknown..etc...etc...etc.

"perfect love drives out fear"
- 1 John 4:18

I guess it's a little humorous that this post is going up on Halloween
but really fear is in all of our lives. I know it's in mine almost everyday.
But how does that affect your life? Does fear control an aspect of your life?
Or even a little part of it? Do you have moments in your daily routine where you
ask yourself, wait, but what if that doesn't work, this falls through, I fail??
What if everything I have  is lost?? What if everything I know, in a instant - is gone?

Well, in reality many of us face these fears head on...
Moving away from friends, getting married, sorting your life out, taking that risk at your job, having children, making new friends. All of these things change your life, and yes they are risks but whose hands are holding you?

Something my husband has to remind me , (more than I would like to admit) is...
"God is in control" . To some that could sound so scary , but to me it's more
a reminder that I am following Christ and as a follower of Christ I must let Him Lead me.

Trusting in God is a life lesson I will never stop learning. I know to place myself
at His will is something I must always choose before listening to myself, because honestly...
I'm a wreak, lost and hopeless without him.

Savior,
You are in control.
No matter how many times I ask to be the leader...
Lead me, because I have no idea where I would go
without you as my guide.
Amen.

A Remarkable Inner Act

Recently, I have been having a hard time understanding
what God is wanting of me, of my life...it's been a struggle
of trust, prayer and hope but I really think God spoke to me
in the smallest yet very clear way.

It was after asking for
specific direction I was led to this bible verse...

"There is no fear in love,
but perfect love drives out fear
because fear has to do with punishment,
and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us."
1 John 4:18-19

We can love because God is in LOVE with us!
Yes this sounds simple but it is
remarkably hard to be confident
when you are surrounded by fear.
All I can say is
when you are in union with Christ, fear isn't an option
Because God is Love.
So really God was asking to please strive for Love
why fear the future? He is my future and that's all I need to know.

Holy God, draw me close to Your love,
so that I may rid myself of the fears
of this world and know that I belong only
to you. Amen.

I'll take my chances to hear You call my name

There is the song I have been hearing on the radio
and I found it to be so radically honest.
I think i'm drawn to it because of the
bluntness.

Just simply stating exactly what is going on
in your heart, so it's out there and everyone will
now know where you are in your faith is so radical,
only because I feel like the only people I know that
radically lay open their book of life for everyone to read, hear and know
are speakers or maybe a very close friend and that's it.

I'm not saying go around and be vulnerable to everyone and talk
about everything you are going through with your faith
but I think we all need to reflect on how we can be more honest
with ourselves.

Maybe "pretend" you are about to give a talk
that calls you to be vulnerable and write everything you are
feeling down or just take
it to prayer and maybe then it will be easier to identify where
your heart truly is.

So here are the lyrics,
"Hold your heart" - tenth avenue north

How long must I pray, must I pray to You?
How long must I wait, must I wait for You?

How long 'til I see Your face, see You shining through?
I'm on my knees, begging You to notice me.

I'm on my knees, Father will you turn to me?

One tear in the dropping rain,
One voice in the sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breakin' heart?
One light, that's all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You're everything You say You are
Won't You come close and hold my heart

I've been so afraid, afraid to close my eyes
So much can slip away before I say goodbye.
But if there's no other way, I'm done asking why.
Cause I'm on my knees, begging You to turn to me
I'm on my knees, Father will you run to me?

So many questions without answers, Your promises remain
I can't sleep but I'll take my chances to hear You call my name.

Father, help me to jump off the ledge and into your arms, because when it comes down to it...I need to know you'll be there with your arms wide open. Amen.
